Yes.. god help us all, it's back! Relax, I seriously doubt we'll be weekly again. Actually, I'm just gonna use this if there really is something that everyone might want to see. For example, for those of you who don't know, I've now got a new e-mail address -- so if, for some odd unknown reason, anyone wants to contact me, I'm now at greed@gti.net Also in the realm of "you've probably already seen this," our old pal Lifeson has e-mailed us from sea. Well, okay.. he just e-mailed Karen -- but he told her to forward it, so basically, I'm sending this out to cover anyone she missed. As always, if you've got any- thing to say, say it here (e-mail it to reed@cs.odu.edu until further notice). Digest Subjects: 1 A Pirate's Tail -------------------------------------------------- Date: Thu, 20 Jul 95 15:03:35 GMT From: David Jabson Subject: A Pirate's Tail heya karen! I hope I got the right address. It's me, lifey :) yours is the only p/g'er address I could even kinda remember so I figured I'd write you and have you forward this message to whoever might be interested. We're on station right now at 42-38N latitute, 130-45W longitude. Weather was kinda crappy for the first few days but it's calmed down quite a bit. Food seems to be improving too, which is a definite plus. Things were going good for the first 2 days. We were getting good data and nothing had broken, which is real odd for this old stuff we're using. Yesterday morning around 12:30 am though, we were towing our vehicle along our planned track when we snagged a moored weather buoy that was in our way. The ship's crew is supposed to warn us about that kind of shit ahead of time but they somehow forgot. So we spent the bulk of yesterday trying to get our vehicle detatched from this 3000 meter long anchor it had picked up. Took 11 hours but we eventually got it back. The wire that attatches our vehicle to the ship was all fucked up though. So were the magnetometers we were towing behind the vehicle (the whole point of this trip is magnetics). So now we get to spend today putting things back together :( Guess that's it for now. I'll give you my email adress here on the ship so you and other folks can write back if you like. Just remember that I get charged for email so dont send me the encyclopedia britannica or anything. my adress is jabson!mlvl62@sdsioa.ucsd.edu. be careful though because if you're typing that address in on a unix command line, you'll need to put a \ before the ! (i.e. jabson\!mlvl62@sdsioa....). catch yas later dave -=======------------------------------------------------------------ | | The views expressed in the #p/g! bulletin board may not be | | held by all #p/g!-ers or all Rush fans, but probably are. | | Check out the #p/g!
