I know this from the movie A Streetcar Named Desire- the character Blanche Dubois says her name means white woods. My friend Greg and I were wondering, while listening to FBN, if the guys were ever members of the Society for Creative Anachronisms? Myke, I don't know what I missed on irc on Monday... Was it really that bad? Who said the stuff to which you are refering? I know I may ocasionally mention what I'd like to do, but I never get GRAPHIC. That would be disrespectful. Anyway a warning to other potential irc-ers: watch out when Letterman, Jvi, and Geddy are all on. Geddy occasionally changes his name to LifeSucks, and it gets rather depressing sometimes. Well, they get depressive, I sit there trying to tell them life doesn't suck, and get kicked off the channel. I don't want to insult anyone but it's a real pain trying to tell three lost souls what Alex (of the most appropriate name) knows: that life is really cool if you know what you want out of it. We are all children of life, whether it is our name or not. Oh boy I sound like a hippie now don't I? Sorry, the conversation really got to me. One of these days I WILL post my findings on themes, but right now I gotta get busy- I'm drawing comics to submit to the local paper. They're loaded with Rush references, like the square root of yyz, F=10, a computer whiz Ken doll in a Rush Tshirt, and a Saturday morning language teacher saying "Buenos nochas, mein froinds, je no se pourquoi you are so tired." We >are all children of life, whether it is our name or not. I can't believe you would be so rude as to post this on the nms. Besides the fact that Letterman, Jvi, and Geddy are my friends, this is very distasteful. If you don't like the conversation, try this dear. Type /leave #p/g! And to think you take everything people say on irc at face value is actually funny. No one forces you to join. [ Mick, it's actually my fault for letting the first post go through. Anyways, folks if you wanna respond to this, send some email. For the most part I think things are squared away anyways, see you guys on #p/g! :rush-mgr ] Nick Mascari (aka Peart on irc) -- If the future's looking dark, we're the ones who have to shine, If there's no one in control, we're the ones who draw the line, Though we live in trying times, we're the ones who have to try, Though we know that time has wings, we're the ones who have to fly. -rush ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sun, 16 Jan 1994 20:20:50 -0600 (CST) From: WSL57662@vax1.utulsa.edu Subject: Please post Good day, I would like to add my $0.02 to the posting from Ms. Julie Oneida regarding three operators of the Rush conversational channel on the IRC. I have frequented the #p/g! channel for over a year, and I have always found Geddy, Jvi, and Letterman (aka Trroy) to be amicable, mature, and insightful. I have seen logs from the conversatuion in question, and would request that Ms. Oneida refrain from judging these persons based on the negative actions of other channel users. Channel #p/g! provides a mature sancutary to IRC users who grow weary of the antics of other channels, and I encourage other Rush fans to join their discussions. Sarah (aka Playgirl) [ Like I said above, I think this is all resolved now. Julie just needs some time on #p/g! that's all. As a new user to IRC, I could see why she would want to post something like that. It's just I missed it while speed reading through the digest and didn't pick up her post. :rush-mgr ] ---------------------------------------------------------- ************************************************************************ Subject: 01/19/94 - The National Midnight Star #853 ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 17 Jan 94 20:17:12 EST From: Mike Subject: NYC, IRC and LA Hey there, I GOT NYC TICKETS (Sorry, I know you all hate this, but this is the first Rush ticket I've ever owned, since I've never seen them, and I'm majorly excited). I got them shortly after 9am Saturday morning. The thrill of actually telling the lady at Ticketmaster that I want "Rush at MSG on 8 March" was so great that I didn't mind waking up at 8:30 on a Saturday morning to call in (my sympathy/understanding/respect to the Rushians who DID camp out for tix in the NYC area, I can't wait to do it here in DC) and spend $42 for one seat. So, my point is: Can someone who's familiar with MSG tell me where Section 38 is? Will it be a good seat? The only thing the lady at Ticketmaster could tell me was the section #, not even what row I got or where in the Gahden it is. Of course, since it did cost me $35+fees I figure it's one damned good seat (and the fact that I only bought one seat, and I got through on the phones very shortly after 9am). Thanks to Nick (aka Peart) and Sarah (aka Playgirl) for your posts in yesterday's NMS about the little disagreement Juno and my comrades and I have. Sarah, I never knew that we were "amicable, mature and insightful." But, thanks anyways. And Nick, I owe ya a beer, dude :) But, Juno's and Myke's postings do bring up something I want to talk about anyways about #p/g! Yes, we are all fanatical Rush fans. Yes, we talk about Rush a lot. Yes, we do talk about other things. Sorry folks, but there's only SO much that can be said about Rush. We do digress into other topics, but that's only to keep the channel together and not fall apart when we run out of things to say about Rush. I'm sure as the tour starts we will have much more to talk about, since #p/g! will have our very own correspondent, Dave (aka tvos) in Pensacola this Saturday night. So, my point is, if you want to meet other Rush fans on IRC, and talk about somewhat related things with Rush fans (like other bands, hockey teams, and sex/bodily functions (Even Ged, Neil and Alex have to use the bathroom every now and then, y'know?)) then hop onto #p/g! Most of us are pretty nice people, and the rest of us pretend to be ;) If you want to only talk to Rush fans about Rush, just read/post to the NMS, and leave us alone on #p/g! I hope the NMS readers in SoCal are okay, and that the two venues that shows will be at in the coming weeks are still okay, too. Thanks for the update, Meg. Almost makes me think twice about moving out to California for law school, eh? So, I'm finally finished. Thanks for bearing with me. Seeya on #p/g!
