I'm a pretty big fan of animation in general. I really enjoyed some of the newer Disney movies, like Mulan, as well as Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast. But my true love, animation-wise, is Anime.

For those who don't want to, or don't have time to check out the link above, here's a quickie definition:

Anime: N. /ehnImA/ or /ahnImA/. A Japanese word meaning "animation". In Japan, anime refers to Disney movies just as much as it does to the stuff produced there. In the US, however, "anime" refers exclusively to Japanese animation.

Some people will try and tell you the works of famous Japanese animators such as Miyazaki Hayao aren't anime, or that anime is just sex and violence. Don't believe them-- anime is everything: both good and bad, raunchy and rapturous, sick and sublime. For more information, please check the "Anime" link above.

People who know FAR too much about this subject are called Otaku. A word of warning, though: in Japan, this word has connotations of "seriously obsessed fan with a major body-odor problem". In America, it's a little less serious, though there are still some who use it in a derogatory way. A rule of thumb: a person may call themselves Otaku, and it's okay, if people they don't know do, it may be an insult (and it may be a compliment by somebody who doesn't know much about the word's history).

Otaku can refer to someone who's really into any subject-- there are computer otaku, race-car otaku, cooking otaku, and so forth. When unadorned, the word means "anime otaku", or "dangerously obsessed anime fan" (but then, aren't we all? :^).

If you're interested in how I became an anime otaku, then I have a a short history for you.
